Harvey (69) and John Pook (41) showed form with the bat but Jason White (4-19) pegged back the Ivanhoe response. They eventually closed on 198-6.
Wigston Town Move Out of Bottom Two (19.08.2006)
Victory Gives Huncote Chance of Safety (26.08.2006)
Huncote moved off the bottom of the Premier Division with victory over fellow strugglers Wigston Town.
Opening bowler Luke Dyke again proved to be the Huncote match-winner, taking seven wickets before guiding them to their target with the bat.
Captain Tim Kirby said: “It was a much-needed win and puts safety in our own hands”
Wigston were put in on a damp wicket and struggled to get going. The home side lost wickets at regular intervals and were indebted to Paul Newnham (41) for lifting them to a total of 129. Dyke (7-81) was helped by Kirby (2-47).
Wigston’s Paul Batchelor made early inroads as Huncote slumped to 11-3 before Hubbard (37) and Kirby (41) shared an 83-run stand. Hubbard was run out with the score on 94 and Kirby soon followed to leave Huncote 96-5. But Dyke hit a quickfire 23 not out to take the visitors to their target for a three-wicket win.
It means Wigston go into the final weekend second from bottom.
Sharnford and Wigston Down After Real Drama (02.09.2006)
Sharnford and Wigston Town have been relegated from the Premier Division despite last day wins.
Victories for Huncote and Hathern Old, the other relegation-threatened sides, meant it was the teams occupying the bottom two places at the start of the day that lost their top-flight status.
Wigston skipper Jason Helmn thought his side had “got out of jail” after they beat Woodhouse Eaves by two wickets.
Ian Barraclough (5-35) and Chris Bentley (4-31) helped dismiss Woodhouse for 153.
And Wigston, who had their innings reduced by 10 overs because of rain, won with an over to spare thanks to Darren Hearne (47) and Helmn (34).
Helmn said: “I thought we had got out of jail. I was quite amazed to see games escape the weather and that all the teams around us won. We played for an hour in the driving rain and then lost 10 overs to the weather, but all credit to Woodhouse for going back out.” He added: “It was a cracking performance but to no avail.”
Wigston were relegated by just four points after an astonishing last-ball win for Hathern Old over champions Birstall Village.
